We have 1 CAS + 40 MMS + 60 Windows agent + 10 DB backup agent + 5 linux backup agent running BE15

1. To upgrade BE15 to FP2 , if the CAS is upgraded to FP2 first but MMS still running BE15. Can backup jobs running on CAS work normally even MMS is not upgraded?

2. To upgrade BE15 to FP2 , need to reinstall the existing windows backup agent and linux backup agent?

3. To upgrade BE15 to FP2, no server restart is required?

4. Do I have to backup the DB of CAS for jobs before upgrading to FP2?

Scenario :

1. One LOtus Domino 9 server : Online / Production Server. WS2012 Std edition.

2. One Lotus Domino Standby Server Server : This server is passive. It will come online if the online server fails.

3. Backup Exec 2015 installed on the Online Lotus Domino Server . We are taking a full backup of Mail  files ( *.nsf files) once a day and then restoring to standby server.

We now want to automate this process. Is it possible to schedule backup and restore ( as described above ) together ( May be as two separate jobs )? I tried to do that but when I try to schedule a restore; it does not show me the backup done. It show older backups.Of course it will not show backup which has not been done.

I am sure there are creative people out there who will find a way of getting this done.

hello i want to ask, i have one virtual machine that i have to backup, i use HP LTO tape backup and i have 5 data catridge for monday to friday backup, so how can i setting backup exec to make rules so if tuesday data catridge enter tape drive in monday , the data catridge tuesday automaticaly eject from tape drive. sorry for my bad english.

I am trying to restore a mailbox from a saved mailbox database.  The backup set is on tape and shows as expired, therefore it does not show up when selecting from the backup sets, and it is within the date range.  The backup set was duplicated to tape for long term storage.  I tried duplicating the backup set back to disk and changed the expiry date and ran a catalog over it.  It still does not show.  What am I missing?  Can the expiration date of the backup set on tape be changed?

Situation:

I am trying to restore from DAT tape.    I have no idea if the backups have been working or if there is anything on the tapes.

I have no idea if the version of Backup exec that the customer has on CD that I can use to reinstall is the same version that was used to backup the data.    i.e. dont know if the software has been upgraded on the server since it was originally installed from media. 

The version of BE that I have access to is 10d on a Server 2003 r2 x32 server.

When attempting to inventory -  the operation is succussful but it indicates that there is nothing on the tapes.   most of the tapes read "unknown media label"

I dont know if the version of BE that was used to backup, if a backup was even performed correctly for that matter, is the same as what i am using to restore.

I installed BE exec 2012.    2012 indicates that the media is scratch.

My question is:    It is an assumption that BE is not forward compatible, that is to say version 10d will not read 12.5, etc.   However,  what is the version backward compatibilty?   Can 2012 Read a tape that was backed up with 10d?    Upon attempting to install 2012 over 10d it indicated that an interum version be installed (v12) and that a direct  in place upgrade  from 10d to 2012 was not possible.

My goal is to see if in fact there is anything on any of the tapes.   How i get there, is not important.     At this point, it appears that in fact the backups have not been working.

I am using Backup Exec 2014 - Server Version is 14.1 Rev. 1786 (64 Bit)

I created a backup job on a new server with the standard Full/Incremental backup set.

I did *not* select the Snapshot Option - that tab is completely blank.

When I run the job, I get:

- Snapshot Technology: Initialization failure on: "\\IGSBACEBGS017.gs.doi.net\Shadow?Copy?Components". Snapshot technology used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).

V-79-10000-11223 - VSS Snapshot error. The Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) snapshot technology that you selected cannot snap this volume.  Some reasons for this could be:

- The snapshot provider that you selected does not support the volume that you are trying to snap.  Try selecting the default snapshot provider, and then run the job again.

 -A disk with a size greater than 63 terabytes or a 4K sector disk may exist on your computer. These types of disks can cause VSS to stop unexpectedly when it creates snapshot

This server is 72 Terrabytes (native) but with formatting and RAID it shows as a 60 TB drive.

The sector size is the standard 512.

How can I back up my share?  Doesn't Symantec Backup Exec work on large drives?  Why does it try to force the snapshot option even though it is not selected?

I have been trying to purchase a new Backup Exec agent license (SQL server) for the past month. My vendor is telling me that there is a backlog of license requests because of the split (Symantec/Vertias) and there is nothing he can do. Is anyone else having this issue? It seems ridiculous that it takes a month to purchase a license and needless to say I am not very happy about it.

When restoring files from my tape, the job failed and complains that it needs 1.5TB of staging. We had a hard time and provided 1.5TB worth of staging location. But the restoration failed as the destination server's remote agent stopped.

We restarted the backup job but it complains that the staging needs 3TB!?

How could this be? Is it a software bug?

When restoring files from tape, i encounter issue that my staging location require 1.5TB. Thus i create a 1.5TB disk to the backup server and restore can go thru. but restoration failed as the destination server's remote agent stopped.

After which i restart the restore job, but now it complains it needs 3.0TB staging location!

Please help. Is this a bug?

i have a Problem with BackUp Exec 15 at a customer.

Errorcode:

We have 2 Servers that are Backup.

The remote Server is runnung well.

The local server runs well for two days, then the error occurs.

After the BackUp fails, this are the status of the VSS writers.

With an reboot oder with an restart of the various services the next back up is successfull.
But it is an Question of time, when the next BackUp fails. 

Windows Server 2008 R2.
BackUp Exex is on the latest Version.

Does anyone know the Problem?

Now I have got a new server WS12R2 where I installed BACKUP EXEC 15 to try if all works to make migration but I'M not able to backup our EMC NAS VNXe3100 using NDMP or also CIFS. My server is updated, my BCK EXEC 15 is updated and I also installed last firmware avalable for VNXE3100 (2.4.4.22283).

From network I'm able to see all shared folder.

My error are:

After some serious disaster on BE15(latest patch), I managed to get the server running again. However I am facing a different issue. 

When I select the deduplication storage and select Backup Sets tab, I see "Load Failed... The queried backup sets contain two backup sets with the same ID." . This happened after I removed this member server from CASO environment.

I checked the catalog files and they are present. I also tried the "Catrebuildindex -r" method mentioned at the post "https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/duplicate-backup-sets-same-id". This had happened a couple of times when the server was a managed server in CASO environment but after a couple of F5, I was able to see the Backup Sets and even start restores.

Any ideas?

I am running backup exec 2014 and i am trying to restore a file from a backup to a VM on one of its network drives. The backups work great, but i tested the restore and get this every time " The backup exec server was unable to connect to remote machine (null) becuase a network interface mating the selected bakcup via netowrk parameters could not be found."

I have installed Symantec BE earlier however data was gone and I managed to retrieve only the bkf file. I cannot restore the data back into the server as the cfg files are not found. What can I do? Been reading and trying all sorts of methods stated here so far I cannot find a solution but when I did a test on the B2DTest the data has passed the tests.

I am unable to restart the backup server service. Event ID is 7022 service hung on starting.

Server is a Windows 2003 R2 with Exchange Server 2007 installed.

I receive the following warning a couple of times a week. I have two media servers both running the same OS and BE versions. BE is updated with the current patches on both media servers, but this warning only shows up on one.

An unknown application is deleting files from the following folder:

 C:\ProgramData\Symantec\CRF 

Files contained in this folder are used by Backup Exec, and deleting them may cause Backup Exec processes to crash. Determine which application is accessing the folder and add the folder to the application's exclusion list.

I have followed the recommendations as per this post and still received the warning: http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/backup-exec-alert-job-warning-server-dc-xxxxxxxx-unknown-application-deleting-files-following . Opened a case with Symantec. Technician had me exclude C:\ProgramData\Symantec\ and C:\Program Files\Symantec\ from the anti-virus. These exclusions were up one directory level from the recommendations from the previosly mentioned post and also included all sub-directories. I am still receiving the warning. I got one yesterday at 4:18 PM and one this morning at 8:41 AM.
