I need a solution

I have installed the Backup Exec Remote Agent on a new server running Exchange 2013.  When I attempt to create a new backup job, I navigate to Domains > Active Directory Domains > "Domain name"> "Server Name".

However, when I expand the the server to see the resources, it only shows a shared folder stored on the server.  There are no drive letters, no other resources.

I am currently using Backup Exec 10d. The server is a virtual machine running on an EXSi 5.1 server.

Steps I have attempted:

1. Installed the remote agent directly from Backup Exec by going to Tools > Install Agents and Media Servers on other server.

2. After noticing the problem listed above, I rebooted the server to see if that would correct this issue.

3. Uninstalled the agent.

4. Copied the RAWSX64 folder and placed a copy locally on the server needing backed up.

5. Used the command line to install the remote agent.

6. Problem still appears.

Any thoughts?

I just can't sort it out try as I may.

Every time I read another document about licensing I end up with a different price.  And these have ranged from 3k per year to 9k!

I have the following:

1 - W2K8R2 - Backup Exec 2012 Server - Will not be backing up.

1 - W2K8R2 - SQL Server

1 - W2K8R2 - Exchange 2010 Server

1 - W2K8R2 - File Server

2 - W2K8R2 - Domain Controllers

-------------------------------------------------------------

I figured I would need:

1 BE 2012 Server License

2 Client for Applications and Databases

3 Client for Windows

 

The License Assessment tool showed a requirement for 8 licenses.

I'm just looking for affirmation on my client licenses.  If I am wrong and there is something more to it, please elaborate.

I'm constantly having issues with jobs stopping, being queued and the disk media going offline.  I am backing up to disk, and so far whenever I have a scheduled job I keep getting the error: 

The job was canceled because the response to a media request alert was Cancel, or because the alert was configured to automatically respond with Cancel, or because the Backup Exec Job Engine service was stopped.

V-79-57344-33039 - Error - Mount failed.
User canceled a Physical Volume Library operation.

However, when I re-enable the disk media and run the job manually, it works.  What's going on?

My symantec backup exec job rated was slown down to 20 MB/min where as it was 780 MB/min it take 40 to 80 hours unbeliviable

i have having exchange server 2010 in DAG envirnoment with 5 databases.

how can i finetune job rate please help....

Hello to all!
I need create a Contingency Site for a VMWare 5.1 primary datacenter.
I though of a secondary VMWare host in the contingency site and make replication between both sites with VMWare vSphere Replication.
Also I though of put a BackupExec server in the contingency site. It'll make backups from the VMWare secondary server (in the contigency site).
I have some question:
    - It is mandatory to make recovery of a Virtual Machine before to do a backup of it, or I can backup it from the VMWare recoveries files?
    - If  is mandatory to make recovery of a Virtual Machine before to do a backup of it, Can I automatizate the recovery task of VMWare? (for example: by pre task script)

Anybody done it before?
Anybody have some document that explaining how to make a backup from the secondary VMWare host?

Hi

I am currently trying to use Backup Exec 2012 SP3 to backup a virtual machine with Windows Server 2012 on a VM server. We backup the Virtual machine VMDK fine but we cannot do a GRT restore. We have the windows agent installed and the permissions look fine but we still get the following error every time. V-79-57344-38725 - One or more virtual disks contain volumes that do not support Granular Recovery Technology (GRT). Granular restores cannot be performed for these volumes.

We have several other Virtual machines that run on the same vm server and these work fine but these are Server 2003/2008

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi all,

 

The account I used to install BE2012 had the password changed. The same account is being used for services logon rights. After the password was changed, deduplication storage went offline. 

So I went to Configuration and Settings -> Backup Exec Services and select  Edit credentials. I filled up the data needed, and pressed OK. Afterwards I received the following error.

So new password was not applied, then I went to services.msc on the backup server and changed the passwords manually one by one, and changed the password of the account that were used on BE2012 from the corresponding menu on BE2012 console . I tried to do it again on BE2012 but I got the same error. Deduplication storage was still offline on BE2012 after manual password change. 

 

After reading half of Google, I saw a post that suggests removing and readding the deduplication store would help the situation thus mending some wrong stuff that might have been in the database of deduplication so would the remove-add process fix those errors. 

I have removed the deduplication storage from BE2012, the folders that were created by BE2012 are still where they used to be. I tried readding the storage  and got this error:

Dear all,

We are planning to upgrade to LD9 very soon and we realize that BE2012SP3 does not support it.

But I would like to know if anyone has tried and what your experience might have been?
Do the backup actually fail or have you maybe encountered other issues ?

I am using Backup Exec 2010 R3.  I have a media set that was set to hold 8 weeks of retetention.  I now need space cleared on the drive its on (its not full yet, but i need space).  I have lowered the retention to 4 weeks.  The previous 4 weeks is not marked as over writable, but i need to delete it to free up space.  I beleive Backup Exec is using deduplication.  How do I safely remove the data 4-8 weeks to free up space?

I was looking to backupo this share via symntec B2d to USB disk attched on same server with Share.

 

What would be take less network bandwidth:-

USB attached to media server with and agent on server with share?

OR

Hello All,

Well, I thought I had this problem solved but apparently there is something else going on.  Previously we have been getting failures on our Exchange server.  It would suceed sometimes but fail most of the time.

So I uncheck the snapshot technology and it seem to do better.  However, it failed again last night with the same error.

Final error: 0xe00084f9 - A communications failure has occurred between the Backup Exec job engine and the Agent for Windows.
Final error category: Resource Errors

Im not sure what is cause this error.  Has anyone had this problem for a prolonged period of time?  If so, what did you do to correct it?

I have upgraded from BE 2010 to 2012.  I have purchased and installed licenses for the Agent for Windows and the Agent for Applications and Databases.

 

Under license information, both agents appear as licensed: yes, installed: no.

 

I've tried to do a push installation to install the Agent for Applications and Databases onto my Windows SQL Server, but the only options available for products to install are Symantec Backup Exec and Agent for Windows.  There's no option to install the Agent for Applications and Databases.

 

Am I doing something wrong?  Do I have to install the Agent for Windows on the SQL server first?  Is the Agent for Applications and Databases wrong for Windows SQL Server - should I just install Agent for Windiows to backup SQL Server?

Backup server -  Windows Server 08 R2 Enteprise / Backup Exec 2012 SP3

SQL Server -  Windows Server 08 R2 Standard / SQL Server 2008 R2 Enteprise

 

Good morning all,

 

I am having an issue with my backup of user created SQL Databases.  I have been working with Support trying to get this fixed, but now I am reaching out further since I still have no solution 3 months later.  Backup Exec will backup the system databases, but any database that we create are being skipped.   The exact error message is

V-79-57344-5891 - The object was not found, or could not be accessed (MS SQL backup).

 

It will do this for all 98 of our created databases.  I have googled the error and tried everything suggested, but nothing yet has worked.  What I can't figure out is how it worked flawlessly for 5 months, and then decided to stop working.  All my other servers are being backed up without issue.  SQL is the only one that is having issues.  Any help and thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Hello,

I just joined an enviroment running BackupExec 2012 SP 3 and am trying to geet fimilar with the product, we are backing up to disk and with all of our backups we do the verify as a seperate job. 

My biggest issue with this is that even if the job is active I cannot see it active in the jobs list unless I expland the tree of a job because the main status is showing as "linked". Is there any way to get it to display the active job at the top of the tree instead of showing that it is a linked job?

Is there any way from the Server View I can see which JObs are in a state od "Ready no idle Devices".

It is very annoying to not be able to se backups in this state as every thing looks happy from the "Servers" view. When actuall a bunch of jobs are being held up (or about to time out)

Running Backup Exec 2012 with Backup Exec agent on Exchange Server 2003.

When the scheduled backup runs on the Exchange 2003 server, both POP3 access and ActiveSync (for smartphones) stops working. Regular email from Outlook works fine. When I cancel the backup, POP3 and ActiveSync almost immediately start working again. Anyone ever experienced this? Any solution? Suggestions?

I am trying to configure Firestramer VTL on BE 2010 R3,

First BE was not able to show the tape media, but i solved that issue,

But when trying to fire test backup it gives errror

Event ID 58064: "Backup Exec Alert: Library Insert (Server: "%server%") (Job: "%job name%") Please insert overwritable media into the robotic library using the import command. Overwritable media includes scratch, blank, and recyclable media" is reported in the Event Viewer Application Log

Please share your view also steps to perform.

Hi,

Runnings BE 2010 R3 (fully patched) on a SBS 2011 server.

We run 2 backup jobs on an evening to an LTO3 drive

First full backup does everything on server apart from exchange and uses AOFO (this seems to run fine every night)

Second backup appends the tape with a full backup of Exchange and does NOT use AOFO

The second backup randomly fails ( average twice a week) with the following error.

V-79-57344-65233 - AOFO: Initialization failure on: "\\SERVER1\Microsoft Information Store\Mailbox Database". Advanced Open File Option used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).

Snapshot provider error (0xE000FED1): A failure occurred querying the Writer status. See the job log for details about the error.

Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.

Writer Name: Exchange Server, Writer ID: {76FE1AC4-15F7-4BCD-987E-8E1ACB462FB7}, Last error: The VSS Writer timed out (0x800423f2), State: Failed during freeze operation (9).
