Today i have confuse some setting on Backup exec 2012 on windows server 2008   . 

 

Detail as below image. Picture SNAG-0095

Yesterday i insert the tape  and see the "Media Properties"  

in Overwrite protected until: Overwriteable

in Appendable until: Not appendable 9 End marker unreadable

 

Today morning tape automatic eject .  And i push tape in media.

and see the "Media Properties"  

in Overwrite protected until: 2/26/2014

in Appendable until: Infinite - Allow append

 

How to different from status yesterday ?

BE 2010 R3/WS2003

I have a bad catalog and am trying to fix it.  In the meantime, I am trying to restore a file after cataloging the tapes and am getting the following message:

The job failed with the following error: Unable to attach to a resource.  Make sure that all selected resources exist and are online, and then try again.  If the server or resource no longer exists, remove it from the selection list. Edit the selection list properties, click the View Selection Details tab, and then remove the resource.

 

I have checked the following:

 

1.  that the RAWS agent version is the same on both the media server and the remote server

2.  Retyped the password for the administrator account for all BE services

 

I don't know what else to check and am hoping for some suggestions.

I have installed backup exec 12.5 on windows server 2003.

 

But my backup job is failing while taking backup of on of the Encrepted directory.  Will you please tell me backup exec 12.5 can backup encrepted directory or not.  

Also please provide me article regarding this issue if you have.

Hello.I am using Backup Exec 2012.And i wanna use Mail archiving feature.But when i am configuring archiving store for mailarchive he gives me error.

 "For the Archiving Option, an error occurred while connecting to the enterprise Vault Storage API.Ensure that the Enterprise Vault Storage Service is running."

I changed place to the remote server and local server and shared it.I checked user account permissions and restarted all services again.There is enough space in the disk.

Hi,

After long time back I am back.......

Ok comming straight to the topic...

I have the following details:-

1. BE 2012 SP1 on MS Windows 2008 R2.

2. Tape Library (4 nos. of FC drive).

3. SAN switch (2 nos.).

4. SAN Storage.

5. LUN are mounted in different servers(7-8 nos. of servers) from the storage. These LUN are taken backup.

 

Now, we are currently taking LAN based backup from all these server to tape library.

Speed..defently a issue. As data size are around 1 TB apprx. on each server and thses data need to be backed up every day (Full backup).

Which defently a big deal for us.

Now, we are upgrading to Enterprise License.

And planning to install the media server on each server so that we can put the data directly to the tapes.

Hello Team,

I have found on backup exec 2012 backup of Sharepoint gets failed with error "0xe0001602 - Access is denied (SharePoint backup)."

If i perform Without GRT backup then it gets completed successfully.

 

But GRT enabled backup gets failed for sharepoint.

As per below symantec article this issue has resolved after installing Backup Exec 2012 Rev 1798 Service Pack 3.

But even after service pack 3 installation also GRT enabled backup job for sharepoint is getting failed. Whats to do next????

Hi,

a customer is using 2 sets of tapes.
1 set is used for 1 week.
The next week the set is changed.

Eventually 1 of the sets will get full. (+- after 4 weeks)
So we have a 3rd set which we then erase, which holds data from 4 week ago.
Then we assign those blank tapes to the same media set.

This has always worked, however not today :(
For some reason the blank media, assigned to the same media set, is not overwritable and thus, the backup fails after 1 tape is full ?

I've ran the backup last night, but it was queued because the first tape was full...
As you can see, the other tapes, are set to 'overwritable', and they're in the same media set.

I'm new in using backup exec 2012. And I have a doubt, I have such a full backup done on Saturday and the differential that is done during the week. 

I wonder how do I restore the differential job (being that the document had changed during the week) I do not find this option in the backup. 

Grateful to anyone who can help me with this "simple" question.

Hi all.  I"m still reading through the BE 2012 admin guide so am learning this product as I go but one thing I read is that in order for the backup job to be able to esetimate the amount of data you have the back up, and the time it will take, you must enable Pre-Scan, which can only be enabled by turning on Test Run. 

The very first time I did this, the server took as long to do the Test Run as it would a normal backup, many hours.  If all this feature does is do some preliminary scans, why did it take that long?  The amount of data was perhaps 1.7TB total, and the tape drive is LTO5. 

Also can anybody advise me: is there a real-world usefullness for enbaling Test Run?  I am assuming by enabling it, your normal backup jobstill runs but this Test Run poriton runs first.  Or by enabling Test Run, are you converting your job from a real backup job to essentially a backup simulation but no real backup occurs?

Kind of a two part question/issue

I did some research on this issue and not seeing much that will help.

So first off can someone explain to me in fairly lamen terms what AOFO is required for if anything?

I have a customer with a single server using backup exec. 2010.

One of my favorite things in this world of IT is a backup that had been working fine for a long time and now doesn't.

I am going to inculde a screen shot of the start of the error.

This is the first time I have worked on this client and since it is a small one server company can I just shut off AOFO and see if it still backs up ok?

It is not needed for Exchange or SQL is it?

I am going to probably start with a manual backup later today to see if that works since I have seen that suggested and if it does maybe clean up the DB?

And side note I tried to run live update and it ran for 15+ min. and never came up and told me if it had updates.   So I have cancelled that and will try it again later also.

ich muss für einen Auftrag einen Backup Job aussetzen und möchte dieses in den Einstellungen machen. Da es nur den einen Job betrifft kann ich dies nicht in den Standarteinstellungen machen, da sonst alle anderen Backups auch nicht mehr laufen. Deshalb nun die Frage wo kann ich einen Auftrag so einstellen, dass ein Tag der normalerweise geplant ist nicht gesichert wird?

Hello,

I am running Backup Exec 2012 as a trial in order to determine if it suitable for the purposes of backing up all of our servers.  It was going so well installing the agent until I get to one server which is reporting a 'Browse Failure' error message when I try to look at a selection list for the purpose of creating a new backup job.  All other servers added work, all servers are using a centralised domain service account which has the following group membership:

* Backup Operators

* Domain Admins

* Users

The server that the browse failure is failing on is a Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP2 (confirmed it is still supported).  I have tried to address the possible causes by updating the Local Security Policy on the affected server by assigning the following user rights:

- create a token object
- log on as a batch job
- log on as a service

Still no joy.  I have also removed the server from Backup Exec, added it again and applied any updates for the Remote Agent.  I have also performed a full uninstall and reinstall of the Remote Agent on the affected server.

Please could somebody take a look at the attached debug log file as I cannot identify what the underlying cause is through the log file?

I am runnning Backup Exec 2012 SP3. Version 14.0 Rev 1798 (64bit)

When I am trying to restore a VM with 2 virtual disks, I get the following errors:

Environment: Backup Exec 2012 Rev. 1798 64 Bit with Service Pack 3 on Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard with a Tandberg T24 LTO-5 changer and a standalone LTO-5 drive, backing up three Windows 2008 servers, a Linux server, and a VMware ESXi host. Weekly full and daily incremental backups to deduplication storage with linked copies to the changer, plus monthly off-site copies of the latest full backups from the changer to the standalone drive.

Every once in a while, one of the daily copies from deduplication store to tape fails with the error:

I have previously posted this problem here, and thought I had solved it by reorganizing my jobs so that the off-site backups are done as copies from on-site ones. I haven't experience with Exchange 2013. The following is the escenario: Media Server with BE 2012 is mounted in Windows 2008 R2. Exchange Server 2013 is mounted in Windows 2012. The backup job works and end successful. When we try to make a restore job and I review the contents of the Storage Information backuped I only see logs files (see attached screenshot).

Question: With this information Can I restore all data for my mail Exchange server?

I have a HP MLS4048 Tape Library connected with SCSI to a server HP Proliant 380 G6, running Windows Standard Server 2008 R2.
With Microsofts drivers for Tape Drive installed, the backup goes smooth, but very slow, only 120 MB/min.

With Symantecs drivers installed, the job rate is about 2000 MB/min (!), BUT the job terminats after a while with Hardware Error.
This happens every time, either in the beginning of the backup job or after a while.

Anyone out there which have solution?

J’ai un problème avec mon système de Backup.

J’ai deux lecteurs de backup HP Storage Works Ultrium 1760 SAS, un pour le backup des données et un autre pour le backup des messages d’exchange 2010. Le backup exchange se passe dans de très bonnes conditions. Mais le backup des données échoue toujours et quand je vais voir l’erreur on me demande de nettoyer le lecteur, voir le message en anglais comme mon système est anglais.

If the storage is tape based, this is usually caused by dirty read/write heads in the tape drive.  Clean the tape drive, and then try the job again.  If the problem persists, try a different tape.  You may also need to check for problems with cables, termination, or other hardware issues.

 

If the storage is disk based, check that the storage subsystem is functioning properly.  Review any system logs or vendor specific logs associated with the storage to help determine the source of the problem.  You may also want to check any vendor specific documentation for troubleshooting recommendations.
